Why Every Mattress on Our Floor Sits on an Adjustable Base

Here's the dirty little secret of mattress retail: most stores put their beds on plain platforms. You lie down on something completely flat, decide whether you like it, write a check, and bring it home — to your actual bed with your actual pillows and your actual partner who tosses, and discover that the mattress feels almost nothing like it did in the store.

That's because how you sleep is dramatically affected by the surface under the mattress. An adjustable base lets you elevate your head 15 degrees to read, or raise your feet to take pressure off your lower back, or set the bed flat. The same mattress feels like three different mattresses depending on the base position. Most importantly, when you sleep on a mattress every night for 8 hours, you almost certainly do not sleep flat. You curl, you elevate, you reach over, your partner moves.

So when we built the Mattress Gallery, we made a decision: every mattress on our floor would sit on an adjustable base. If you come into the showroom, you can lie on the Beautyrest Black Series 3 in the same position you'll actually sleep in. Raise the head, drop the feet, tilt yourself however you want. The mattress you buy will feel the same in your bedroom as it did in the store, because the test conditions match the home conditions.

It's a small thing that nobody else in this market does. It's also the single biggest reason our customers don't return their mattresses.

Come visit. Lie down. See what we mean.

Mattress Gallery is at Crossroads Center Mall in St. Cloud, MN. Open daily.
